That embarrassing sound every time you step on the accelerator is caused by a hole somewhere within the exhaust system. As exhausts comprise four parts (the manifold, the front downpipe, the centre section and the rear silencer box) you should only need to replace the affected section.
There are a number of reasons why your car might be making a grinding sound. This often indicates metal-on-metal, so it’s likely that your brake pads need replacing.
